COUNSELLING IN CALGARY & ONLINE ACROSS ALBERTA
Clinical counselling rooted in a whole-person understanding of growth and integration.
Dawson Diment | Counsellor in Calgary
I’m Dawson Diment, a counsellor and the founder of Parable Counselling in Calgary.
Parable was created around a simple idea: meaningful change often begins with becoming curious about the story we’re living—and the patterns, wounds, and assumptions that may be shaping it.
Through individual and couples counselling, I offer a thoughtful space to make sense of what feels stuck, reconnect with what matters, and move toward greater freedom, clarity, and purpose.

Life doesn't have to be falling apart for something to feel wrong.
You may be carrying something that feels difficult to name, or noticing patterns that keep showing up no matter how hard you try to move past them.
Maybe anxiety and overthinking are taking up too much space. Maybe you feel stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about where your life is going. Perhaps a relationship has become strained, a habit feels harder to change than you expected, or you simply know that something is not working the way you want it to.
Counselling can offer a place to slow down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and begin responding differently.
Parable Counselling supports adults and couples in Calgary with concerns including:
Anxiety and overthinking
Feeling stuck or disconnected
Repeated relationship patterns
Stress and overwhelm
Loss of direction or purpose
Addiction or habits that feel difficult to change
Identity and Growth
Faith and Spirituality
A Different Kind of Counselling
Honest & Purposeful
Counselling should be more than a place to talk in circles. Our work will make space for what you are experiencing while also gently exploring the patterns, assumptions, and choices that may be keeping you stuck.
Evidence-Based
& Deeply Human
Parable draws from established, evidence-informed counselling approaches while recognizing that people are more than symptoms, diagnoses, or problems to solve. Therapy is collaborative, practical, and shaped around the person sitting in the room.
Rooted in Meaning
Feeling better matters—but so does understanding what you want your life and relationships to stand for. Counselling can help you reconnect with your values, develop greater freedom in how you respond, and move toward a life that feels more intentional and alive.
What I Help With
People come to counselling for many different reasons. Some are facing a clear crisis; others simply recognize that the way they have been living is no longer working.
-
When your mind rarely slows down, uncertainty can begin to shape your decisions, relationships, and sense of peace. Counselling can help you relate differently to anxious thoughts and build greater flexibility in how you respond.
-
Sometimes life becomes flat, heavy, or directionless. We can work together to understand what is contributing to that sense of disconnection and begin rebuilding movement, meaning, and engagement.
-
Repeated arguments, emotional distance, resentment, or difficulty expressing what you need can gradually erode connection. Counselling can help uncover the patterns beneath the conflict and create healthier ways of relating.
-
Many behaviours offer short-term relief while gradually pulling us away from the kind of life we want to live. Counselling can help you understand what keeps the pattern going and develop more workable ways of responding.
-
For some clients, questions of faith, identity, suffering, purpose, or relationship with God are inseparable from the rest of life. Counselling can provide space to explore these concerns thoughtfully and without reducing them to either purely psychological or purely spiritual issues.
Your Story Matters. So Does Where It's Going.
The name Parable is intentional.
A parable takes the ordinary experiences of life and invites us to see something deeper within them.
I think counselling can do something similar.
Your story includes experiences you chose and experiences you didn't. There may be chapters marked by loss, mistakes, disappointment, relationships, uncertainty, or things you wish had gone differently.
Counselling isn't about pretending those chapters didn't happen.
It's about becoming more able to understand your story without being trapped by it—and deciding how you want to participate in what comes next.
Faith can have a place here. It doesn't have to.
Parable Counselling welcomes clients from all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences.
For clients who desire it, counselling can thoughtfully incorporate questions of Christian/Catholic faith, spirituality, meaning, vocation, forgiveness, suffering, and identity alongside evidence-based psychological care.
For clients who don't want faith incorporated into counselling, it won't be.
You don't need to share a particular worldview to be respected, understood, or welcomed here.
